Efficient triangulations and boundary slopes

چکیده
For a compact, orientable, irreducible, ∂-irreducible, and an-annular 3-manifold, it is shown there are only finitely many boundary slopes for incompressible ∂-incompressible surfaces of bounded Euler characteristic. We use normal surface theory the inverse relationship crushing triangulation along [8] that inflating an ideal [12] to introduce study boundary-efficient triangulations end-efficient triangulations. It compact 3-manifold with boundary, satisfying these topological conditions, any can be modified triangulation; furthermore, decided if such manifold boundary-efficient.

Boundary slopes (nearly) bound cyclic slopes
Let rm and rM be the least and greatest finite boundary slopes of a hyperbolic knot K in S . We show that any cyclic surgery slopes of K must lie in the interval (rm − 1/2, rM + 1/2). AMS Classification 57M25; 57M27

Let X be a norm curve in the SL(2,C)-character variety of a knot exterior M . Let t = ‖β‖/‖α‖ be the ratio of the Culler-Shalen norms of two distinct non-zero classes α, β ∈ H1(∂M,Z). We demonstrate that either X has exactly two associated strict boundary slopes ±t, or else there are strict boundary slopes r1 and r2 with |r1| > t and |r2| < t. As a consequence, we show that there are strict bou...
متن کاملVirtually Embedded Boundary Slopes
We show that for certain hyperbolic manifolds all boundary slopes are slopes of π1-injective immersed surfaces, covered by incompressible embeddings in some finite cover. The manifolds include hyperbolic punctured torus bundles and hyperbolic two-bridge knots.

متن کاملBoundary Slopes for Montesinos Knots
FOR A KNOT K c S3, let S(K) c Q u {CQ} be the set of slopes of boundary curves of incompressible, %incompressible orientable surfaces in the knot exterior, slopes being normalized in the standard way so that a longitude has slope 0, a meridian slope co. These sets S(K) of %slopes are of special interest because of their relation with Dehn surgery and character varieties; see e.g., [2]. The only...
